Major Watersheds, Mahoning County

Upper Mahoning River Watershed:
66,000 acres which includes Berlin Reservoir and Lake Milton. All of Smith, Western Goshen, Berlin and Milton Twps. Land uses include primarily agriculture with some recreational.

Meander Creek Watershed:
50,000 acres which includes Meander Reservoir Parts of Jackson, Milton, Austintown, Canfield, Goshen and Green Twps. Land use is mostly agricultural, with some residential and commercial. This is the drinking water supply for Austintown and the City of Youngstown.

Mill Creek Watershed:
47,000 acres which includes Mill Creek MetroParks and the Canfield Fairgrounds. Parts of Youngstown, Canfield, Beaver, Boardman, and Austintown Twps. Land uses include recreational and residential. This is the commercial center of the County.

Yellow Creek Watershed:
23,000 acres which includes Pine, Hamilton, Burgess and Evans Lakes. Parts of Boardman, Beaver, Springfield, and Poland Twps. Also the City of Struthers. Drinking water supply for Poland, Campbell and Struthers.

Little Beaver Creek Watershed:
45,000 acres which includes parts of Goshen, Green, Beaver, Springfield and Poland Twps. Land use is primarily agriculture. Some surface mining in Springfield Twp.

Lower Mahoning River Watershed:
40,000 acres which includes McKelvey Lake and the Mahoning River. Parts of Youngstown, Campbell, Lowellville, Struthers, parts of Austintown, Coitsville, Boardman and Poland Twps. Land use is mostly urbanized with a mix of industrial, commercial and residential.
